Speaker 1:So let me start with a question. Do you ever feel like your past is this heavy backpack you're carrying everywhere? You know, like the one that's full of old junk, things that you wish you'd done differently, words you wish you could take back and moments you'd rather forget? I know that feeling because I've been there. It can feel like, no matter how hard you try to move forward, that past keeps pulling you back right, trust me, I know. But you know what? There's some good news you don't have to carry that backpack anymore.
Speaker 1:So the other day I was talking to my prayer group. Well, actually we were reading the Bible in my prayer group and this verse just kind of like jumped out at me when we were reading it, and that verse was second Corinthians 517. It says the Bible gives us a powerful truth. This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone, a new life has begun. So I'm going to read it again, because I just thought it was very, very powerful. It says this means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. Okay, so the old life is gone, a new life has begun. Okay, so the old life is gone, a new life has begun.
Speaker 1:I mean, like, honestly, once we give our life to Christ, or once we start diving deep into God's word, it's telling us that this old life of ours is gone. It's not packed away in storage, it's not sitting in a corner waiting to jump out at you, but gone, done, finished. And I know what you're probably thinking, amiga, like yeah, mariana, that sounds great and all. But how do I actually live? Like my old life is gone? Because my past is still there and people sure don't let me forget it. I hear you and people have this funny way of wanting to remind us of who we used to be. But you know what? They don't get to define you. They don't get to define me. Me God already did, and he says you are new. It took me some time to believe that it really, really did Because, like I said here, there were so many people out there that once I started going to church, or once I started doing things differently in my life, they were like oh really, I remember when she used to do this, I remember when she used to do that and people were so notorious about telling me about what I used to do, not to mention, I would also get classified for being a woman under my dad's identity, for who he used to be.
Speaker 1:So you know and talking about something personal, you know I have a past. I was ashamed of it and it took me years to let it go. But over time I can tell you this, there will be new people in your life who know nothing of your past, and when you share it with them, they will see the you of today, not the you of all those years ago. Those people who constantly remind you of your past. Keep living by God's word, amiga. Show them what redemption looks like. One day they too may follow your example and, trust me, I have literally seen that happen.
Speaker 1:And sometimes it's those very people that perhaps you, maybe something happened between y'all right, like, maybe there was, I don't know, maybe there was a fight, an argument, something happened, and they're still holding on to that. So when they see that you've made changes and that your life is not the way that it used to be and you're now surpassed your old life and God has just transformed you the inside out and has blessed you with people around you. You know that support you, they encourage you, whatever and perhaps they're still living in that past and so they don't know how to move with you. Right, they don't know how to go where you're going, or they're still not where you're where you're at. But if you continue to follow God's word and you continue to live by his word, one day that person that continuously reminds you of your past, they too will find Jesus, because I've seen it. So let's break this down a bit.
Speaker 1:When Paul talks about being a new person, he's not saying you get amnesia and forget everything that ever happened to you. What he's saying is your past no longer has power over your identity. You are not the sum of your mistakes. You are not what happened to you. You are who God says. You are Love, redeemed and worthy.
Speaker 1:Another scripture that gives us hope is Isaiah 43, 18 through 19,. That says forget the former things, do not dwell on the past. See, I'm doing a new thing. Now it springs up. Do you not perceive it. I'm making a way in the wilderness and streams, in the wasteland. God is always working on our behalf, making a new, making a way forward, even when we can't see it Like, god is doing some amazing things and, like I said, I have witnessed this for myself.
Speaker 1:Just when I thought my life wasn't going to get any better Once, I just thought that for sure, it was just going to continue, continue to crumble down, crumble down and whatnot, and next thing, you know, god just came in and just made things better for me. The thing that I thought was not going to happen happened. God just blessed me, he opened doors for me, he allowed me to just really have a second chance at life. And then, let's not forget too Romans 8.1 says so now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. No condemnation, amiga. That means that you're not on trial anymore, the verdict has already been given and it's freedom. And you know what? And I'm going to be real honest.
Speaker 1:So if you haven't been following me and this is your first time on here, amiga then let me just say this that there was a time that I thought I was going to go to prison because I had committed a crime. I had committed fraud. My mom and my sisters pressed charges on me. If you want to learn a little bit more about that story, grab a copy of my book, because it's all in there. But I thought I was going to go to prison, but instead I got probation and I was supposed to have probation for 10 years, and then it turns out that I didn't even have to complete the full 10 years because I had paid my restitution, I had found a good job, I had graduated from college. So all this to say is that God, god, you know God was there. He had forgiven me and I was granted this freedom. I no longer was on probation and I didn't have a felony on my record. It was reduced down to a misdemeanor.
Speaker 1:So think about it this way you wouldn't put on dirty clothes after a shower. Right? When God gives you a new life, it's like he's handing you a fresh, clean outfit. But sometimes we're so used to the old clothes we keep reaching for them out of habit. You know, like those nice comfortable jeans and stuff. They're already probably like all torn up and or whatever, but we're still wearing them. It's time to stop doing laundry for the past, amiga, put those old clothes in the trash and start walking in the newness God has given you. So here are a few steps to help you live like the newness God has given you. So here are a few steps to help you live like the new person you are.
Speaker 1:First of all, renew your mind. Spend time in God's word and let it reshape how you see yourself. Replace those negative thoughts with his truth. Write down 2 Corinthians 5, 17 and put it somewhere. You'll see it every day. Another thing set boundaries. Sometimes moving forward means leaving certain people or situations behind. It's OK to protect your peace and prioritize your healing. Forgive yourself, ok. Now this one's big. If God has forgiven you, who are you not to forgive yourself? Stop beating yourself up over things God's already thrown into the sea of forgetfulness. God has that capability to forget. We don't, but he does. Does that mean for us to continue to do the wrong thing? No, but what it does mean is that we need to give ourself grace and then surround yourself with support.
Speaker 1:Find your tribe, women who will cheer you on, pray for you and remind you who you are when you forget it. If you're looking for a community, you've got one right here, amiga. I have Cafecito y Amiga here in the Galveston, houston, galveston area. We get together. I also host a Bible study group called Amiga, ready to Read your Bible and listen. We are building a community. So if you're looking for a community, don't look any further, because we've got one right here for you. Amiga, come on through. I'm going to have everything in the show notes for you so that you can come out there and you can be part of this tribe of ours.
Speaker 1:I'm not going to say that this journey is easy, but I am saying it's worth it and you're worth it. So let today be the day you start living like the new creation you are. Hold your head up high and let go of that backpack. Take out everything that's in there, or just buy yourself a whole new one Right and step into the freedom God has for you. Let me pray, father God. We just thank you for the amiga that we have here today.
Speaker 1:Father God, we thank you so much, father God, because we know that you are blessing her. Father God, remove whatever it is that is holding her down, whatever's weighing her backpack down, father God, remove it, have her, get rid of it, throw it away, put it on fire, whatever necessary that needs to be done for her to forget about it, father God, but let her be freed from that past, let her be freed from what others are saying, let her be freed from all those things, father God, because you have created her to be a new person. Father God, you've created her to have a new person, new opportunities, new abilities, and you are just pouring into her, father God. So we just thank you, father God, because we know that you are doing a new thing inside of her and outside of her, father God, bless her steps, father God, surround her with the people that need to be around her, father God, building her up, father God, and encouraging her to go out there and live this new life that she is living, father God, and I pray that she receives you and that she will wholeheartedly, father God, follow you, jesus. And for those people who are the naysayers, father, that continue to put her down or try to remind her of who she used to be and not who she is today, Father God, then we ask that you remove them from her life, father God. Let them see from afar, the new person, the new creation that you're creating her to be, father God. She is like that clay mold, father God, that has been crushed down and now you're remolding it, father God, into something new and beautiful. And so, father God, we just pray for her, we lift her up to you, and it's in Jesus name that we pray.
Speaker 1:Amen, all right, amiga, if you found this information to be helpful for you, please, please, please, don't forget that you are not alone. Please, please, don't forget that you are not alone. Remember, you're not alone and your past does not define you. Okay, and I'm going to put information in the show notes and listen, if you've never worked with a life coach and you're ready to work with a life coach, I am right here for you. I will put that information.
