Jesus Over Everything: Why I'm Not Afraid to Speak Up

Mariana Monterrubio - Best Selling Author, Biblical Life Coach and Motivational Speaker Season 8 Episode 2

What does it truly mean to stand boldly for your faith in a world that often misunderstands and rejects it? This raw, unfiltered episode delves into the tension between speaking truth and showing compassion as believers in today's polarized society.

Through vulnerable personal testimony, I share my journey from deep brokenness to bold purpose—including past struggles with abortion, infidelity, and other sins that once defined me. Rather than hiding these painful experiences, I reveal how God transformed my greatest shame into my most powerful testimony. This isn't about judgment but about hope: if God could change me, He can surely change you too.

We examine how media and cultural divisions tear families apart, while exploring a different path forward. True Christian witness requires speaking truth with love, listening genuinely instead of preparing defensive responses, and recognizing that God works uniquely in each person's life. As Matthew 24:14 reminds us, the gospel must be preached throughout the world—not through condemnation but through authentic testimony.

Drawing inspiration from public figures who boldly stood for Jesus despite criticism, I encourage you to live unafraid of external judgment while extending genuine compassion to others. Our calling isn't to tell people how to live but to point them to the One who gives life.

Speaker 1:

Now, this isn't going to be an episode about politics, because I'm going to be the first to admit that I don't follow it closely enough to debate. I wouldn't even know how to debate it. To be honest with you, that's not my thing, if you will, but what I want to talk about is this young man's stance on Jesus? Young man's stance on Jesus. Just like my sister, he loved the Lord and he was unafraid to speak boldly about his faith and he was mentoring young people, pointing them to the truth of Jesus Christ. Did he ruffle feathers? Yes, did people hate him Absolutely, did people call him all kinds of names? Of course, and one of the things that social media does and what social media is really good at and not just social media, but media in general they're very good at only speaking on you know. They're good about only taking away what they want you to hear. You know, and they don't show the full picture. They just show you what they know is going to stir up, because you know what the media. That's what it's for. It's to stir up people, to pull people against one another, up people, to pull people against one another, and people are falling into that trap of allowing for media to tear people apart, to tear families apart.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to speak about my own family, my own family. They're torn apart because of political beliefs. Some may be torn apart because of how they believe in Jesus or in what religion they're in. For them, it's about religion and not about Jesus. It's not about God. It's about how do you practice your faith. And if we really dig deep down inside of that, it was never about religion. It's always been about the relationship with Jesus Christ and the thing is, is that that's part of our calling? That's part of our calling. We should ruffle feathers, but we shouldn't hate. We should ruffle feathers but we shouldn't judge. We should ruffle feathers and do our best not to sin.

Speaker 1:

And as Christians, we are called to speak truth with love, to have real conversations, to listen fully, not just prepare a defensive response, because that's what we do. Anytime someone is in opposition of what we think or what we say, right away we want to already start thinking about how we're going to defend our stance, and that's not what we need to do. We need to listen because deep down inside in what they're saying, they believe in something so powerfully because of something that has taken place. Just like when we speak about our faith, we speak of it because of an experience that we've had and how Jesus touched our lives and how he's allowed for us to work things out in our lives and he has shown us our sin. He shows us that area that is ugly, that thing that isn't good, that part of us that needs to be removed, because he's calling us to experience a new life. He wants us to experience transformation and we shouldn't force how God transformed us onto someone else who is perhaps going through something similar to you, which is why it's so important that we need to share our stories. This is why it's so important that we need to share with others the things that we have gone through, the heartaches, the pain, the sufferings that we've experienced, so that they know that you're not against them, but that there was one who was for you and who helped you.

Speaker 1:

Sure, I've experienced racism at some point in my life? Yes, I've had an abortion, and try to talk to women about what that feels like that. At one point, I was fed the lie, because that's what it was. It was the lie that I could have this choice of aborting a baby. Excuse me. Excuse me and feel like I could still have a life without remembering that act. And the truth of the matter is is, for all these years, I lived with it, I carried it, I tried to suppress it and God showed me that I had to deal with it To deal with it. So it's not what people try to feed you, and I'm going to speak of my own personal experience, but I do know other women who have experienced the things that I've gone through, and that is the after, guilt, years later, that I, because of my own selfish reasons, had this abortion or two, because it was two of them.

Speaker 1:

So, yes, I am someone who is against abortion and I do believe that people should not have abortions. I do believe that people should not have abortions. However, I also believe that if medically necessary for the life of the child unborn and the life of the mother, if both lives are in jeopardy and it needs to happen because it's medically necessary, happen because it's medically necessary then please pray about it and allow God to grant you the peace that you need to be okay with that decision. Matthew 24, 14 reminds us that the gospel of the kingdom will be preached to the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and I know that scripture in Spanish. That was the scripture that I first learned in Spanish. Why, I don't know, but it was, and I'll repeat it in Spanish Mateo 24, 14. Y estas buenas nuevas del reino se predicarán en toda la tierra habitada para dar testimonio a todas las naciones, y entonces vendrá el fin.

Speaker 1:

We are commissioned to share the good news and, yes, the Bible also makes it clear that God hates sin, but at the same time he calls us to love people, even our enemies. I shared this morning with a friend that I want the kind of hate that rejects what God rejects, but I don't want to hate people. I want to live unafraid of what others think and love as Christ loves. I want to be able to stand bold in my faith, so bold that if I were to die because of what I believe, that I will be received by God and that he will say you have been a good and faithful servant. Charlie Kirk's death is a sobering reminder that he was unafraid of what could happen to him because he knew he was walking in his God-given purpose. That same boldness is what I pray we each carry.

Speaker 1:

Yes, the world may call us judgmental or uncaring when we stand against sin, but the truth is we can still speak truth and still love. We can stand firm without compromise and still extend kindness. And the reality is is we live in an imperfect, broken world. I've been through trainings on communication and conflict resolution at work, but none of it can replace what our world is missing, and that's Jesus, because without him, people don't truly know how to listen or love. And, as a Christian woman, my goal is not to tell you how to live. See, that's not what God has called me to do. My goal is to point you to the one who gives life. That's why I have Mommy on a Mission.

Speaker 1:

Mommy on a Mission taught me because this is my life story had been disappointed time and time again. Who had felt abandoned, who was lonely, who had committed sin after sin. Yes, I've committed adultery. Yes, I have had infidelity in my life. Yes, I have drank more than what I should. Yes, I have committed a crime. Yes, I have had two abortions. Yes, I have been in stances where I've lied and, you know, dishonored my, my parents. I would be lying to you if, if I didn't do any of those things.

Speaker 1:

But you know what? God grabbed a hold of me and he showed me where and what I needed to change. And if God could change me, he can for sure change you. He can for sure change you. If God could give me life again, to live life correctly again, then I know that he could do the same for you. And this is a journey we're all on, imperfectly but faithfully.

Speaker 1:

So my prayer today is this If you take anything from this episode, let it be this Ask Jesus to be your personal Lord and Savior and live unafraid. Be bold about your faith. Stand for Jesus the way Charlie and my sister did. Do not be afraid to shout that Jesus is God, because, at the end of the day, amiga, our true purpose is to serve God and serve his people with love. So thank you for letting me share my heart today. We'll continue with part two of our Empower Her series next week and until then, walk boldly, live on purpose and never be afraid to stand for Jesus. Thank you, amiga.
