MAMI on a Mission Podcast: Faith, Healing & Purpose

“I’m Stuck in a Rut & Tired as… Girl, Don’t Say It.”

Mariana Monterrubio - Best Selling Author, Biblical Life Coach and Motivational Speaker Season 8 Episode 8

Ever feel successful on paper but empty in your spirit? That restless ache could be a holy signal that the season shifted before you did. We open up about the difference between purpose, calling, and assignment—and why mixing them up keeps you tired, second-guessing, and stuck in roles that no longer fit. With Scripture as our guide, we reframe “stuck” as “stilled,” a divine pause designed to clear the noise so you can hear your next step.

We get practical about how assignments change across your career and in motherhood, moving from learning to leading, from doing to discipling. You’ll hear why rest is not laziness but strategy, how presence precedes plans, and the simple prayer that unlocks clarity: Lord, what is my assignment for this season? We also talk about provision—how God equips what He assigns—and look at Moses and Aaron as a model for courage, partnership, and timely help when your confidence and capacity feel thin.

If you’re sensing burnout, boredom, or disconnection, this conversation will help you discern whether it’s time to release an old assignment and receive a new one. Walk away with language to locate yourself, questions to take into prayer, and the peace that comes from knowing your purpose never changed even while your path did. Subscribe, share this with an amiga who needs it, and leave a review to help more women find healing and hope. Ready for the next faithful step? Tune in and tell us what season you’re stepping into.

SPEAKER_00:

Amiga, have you ever felt like you're doing absolutely everything you can and you're still exhausted, drained, or unsure where you're even headed? If that's you, you're in the right place today. Welcome to the Mommy on a Mission podcast, where we talk healing, purpose, confidence, and becoming the woman God created you to be. One honest conversation at a time. Grab that cafecito, take a breath, and let's dive in. Welcome to the mommy on a mission podcast, where when life be life and amiga, we call on Jesus. I'm your host, Mariana, certified biblical life coach, author, and your purpose-driven amiga, here to remind you that you don't have to walk through life on anything. Here we talk healing, identity, confidence, purpose, and those real life moments nobody wants to admit they're going through. But you know we all are. So grab your plefecito, settle in, and let's dive into the conversations that help you grow, breathe, and align your life with the woman God created you to be. Then 13 years into my career, successful on paper, stable, respected, I started to feel that same ache. You kind of almost feel like I'm getting a little bit bored, right? I felt that the whole the that holy discomfort, that tug that whispered, daughter, this assignment is shifting. Isaiah 43, 19 reminds us, behold, I am doing a new thing. Now it springs forth. Do you not perceive it? Many times God begins the new thing in your heart long before you realize it. The discomfort is usually the first sign. You're not stuck, you're being stilled. So hear me again you are not stuck. You are being stilled. Being stuck feels like you're trapped. Being stilled means God is pausing you on purpose. Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21. So sometimes God slows your momentum because he's redirecting you, he silences the noise so you can hear him clearly. You're not lost. You are in a divine holding pattern. But let me let me put things into a little bit, let me clear some things up, okay? Because I know that sometimes we hear these words purpose, calling, assignment. Sometimes most of us use these words like like they mean the same thing, but they don't. Okay, so we're we're gonna kind of clarify a little bit more about what these three words really mean. So number one, purpose. Purpose is the reason why you exist. Never changes. Purpose is eternal, it's God-given. So, in simpler terms, your purpose is to glorify God, to know him, and to reflect him. An example of this is in Isaiah 43:7. It says, Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory. God is literally telling his people, this is why I made you. Your purpose is not tied to a job, it's tied to your identity in Christ. Okay. The second one, calling, how you uniquely walk out your purpose. Calling is personal, it evolves with you, it matches your gifts, your voice, your story. Ephesians, sorry, Ephesians uh chapter four, verse one says, walk in a manner worthy of the calling you have received. So what Paul is doing here is he's reminding us that that calling is not about position, it's about a Christ-led lifestyle. Your calling is how you express God's purpose in your life. I hope that makes sense. And then number three, assignment your seasonal task from God. Assignments are temporary, they shift, they evolve, right? Ecclesiastes chapter three, verse one says, To everything there is a season. So assignments are attached to seasons, they have a beginning and an end, and that's okay. So, Amiga, if you feel stuck because you're holding on to an assignment, God already. I'm sorry, you might feel stuck because you're holding on to an assignment, God already ended. I don't know what's wrong with me. I can't even talk today. So that's why you're feeling restless, right? Why you feel drained, why you feel disconnected. Proverbs 3, 6, which is one of my favorite scriptures, but in part it says, in all your ways, acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths. Paths with an S. It's plural, meaning multiple assignments, multiple seasons, multiple directions. You're not stuck, amiga. You're transitioning. Okay. But this is the thing. Many of us are holding on to our assignments. We are not letting go of that assignment. We feel that our assignment is what we're our calling, is what we're supposed to do. Yes, you can be a nurse, you can be a teacher, you can be a CEO, you can be all of these things in your career, but that does not mean that that is your assignment. So let me put it a little bit into perspective, okay? So I will say this for some of you, right after college, right? You went to college for a specific career and you get hired to that job. So you're very excited, you know, you know this is what your calling is, is to go into this job and you're gonna make a difference, right? And then your assignment is the duties that are given to you, okay? The position that you're in for that moment. And then after a while, you're like, I'm really doing more things, you know, like things are being added on to you, but something is not changing. You feel like you're stuck in the same role, right? And so the the shift is or the transitioning is to get you from that entry-level position to mid-level career position, which could be, you know, supervisor or manager or program coordinator, whatever that is for you, right? That's that next step. That is that next assignment, that is the next way because now you went from learning to now you are training and you're getting your feet wet in that area in which you're training somebody else to do the things that you used to do. So you're now pouring back into them, whereas a manager or director is now pouring into you so that you can go into that next level, right? So that assignment has ended for you, and it's time for you to move into that new direction, and so the same thing happens with us in life as well, right? Our roles are temporary in the sense that yes, I was called to be a mother, and I'm gonna always be a mother, but the way that I mother my children is going to change. That assignment is gonna change. See, before I was a mother to help my kids, you know, to take care of them, to clean them, to bathe them, to be them, to make sure that everything was okay because they couldn't communicate that with me. And as they started getting older, that assignment started to look a little bit differently. And then as they got older and they become two teenagers, then that assignment called me to back up a little bit and allow for them to start growing into their assignment. Okay, do you get me here? And now that my kids, you know, three of my kids are now adults, my assignment is no longer to mother them the way they were when they were babies, but to be a mother in a way that they could come to when it is needed. I am no longer assigned to them to do everything for them. I am now assigned to them to be there for when they need me or when they are stuck somewhere and they need something, right? That is my assignment. Okay. And so uh it's almost like, let's think about it for a minute. Maybe okay, during the holidays, because we're in the holiday seasons, right? And you know, you've got your jeans, they're comfortable, they you know, they're right where you need it, and then the holidays come in, the tamales are starting to happen, you know, the uh rompompe is starting to happen, all of the favorite foods are coming out, right? And we're eating, eating, eating. And then January comes along, and those pants are tight. There's there's no more room to expand. We're holding on to it, right? We're we're stuffing ourselves into these pants that don't fit us anymore. And we need to, number one, either we need to upgrade into another size, or we need to do something about it to get back into it, right? And so, what that means is that we are feeling ourselves tight in the season that we are in, and we're not allowing ourselves to grow and expand with the change. Okay, so I hope you're following me here, okay? I hope you're following here, and and that's why I said you might feel stuck because you're holding on to an assignment, but God has already put an end date to it, right? So now you're feeling anxious. Now you're feeling like, oh my God, you know, like burnout is starting to kick in, right? You feel like I don't even belong here anymore, like so disconnected, you know. I don't even want to be around these people anymore. I don't want to do this, I don't want to do that. Like, it's like I have to force myself to get up, right? But once again, what are you holding on to? So rest is a strategy. Many of us don't see that as a strategy. Many of us, you know, associate rest with laziness, rest with selfishness, rest with being unproductive. But the truth is that Jesus rested. So why shouldn't you? Mark 631 says, Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest. Rest is obedience, rest is being in alignment, and rest is spiritual clarity. Think about this. When you're going, going, going, going, going, going, and going, and you're like so tired, right? That you almost feel like a zombie. And then the minute you get to your comfortable bed, you fall asleep, and maybe you fall asleep a little longer than you intended, right? But when you wake up, you wake up feeling like, oh my God, I really needed that. Like you're up early in the morning and you're ready to go, right? We need that rest, we need to strategize our rest for the season that we're in, or to rest up for the season that you're about to be in. Because when God is starting to stir something up in you, you feel that anxiousness, like you're ready to do, but you just don't know what that is, right? But God needs you to calm down and he needs for you to rest so that you can be your mind space can be clear in order for you to get ready for that next assignment. Okay, so what we need to be doing is seeking God before we seek our goal. Psalms 32.8. I'm pouring out scriptures to y'all today because I really feel like this is something that we really need to hone in on, right? And so we need to seek God before we seek a goal. Psalms 32.8 says, I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. Your next move isn't a plan, it's his presence. Ask him, Lord, what is my assignment for this season? I will tell you something. It's like I said before, I've been in my career, I love what I do. Quite frankly, I love what I do. I mean, when I'm at the job and I'm invested, or or when I'm really into what I'm doing, and I'm seeing people gain the results that they need from whatever goal they have for themselves, or whatever assignment God has them in. And I'm there to help them reach that goal and they reach it, and I see them, and they're happy and they're successful, and all of these things that motivates me, that excites me. That is why I love doing what I do because I get to see God's glory in all of that. See, I don't do all of these things out of my own accord. God has prepared me and He has equipped me and He has given me the tools and the resources in order to be able to go out and answer the call that He has already given me. And then in that call, He has assigned me certain tasks that I need to be doing that's gonna glorify Him. Everything that we do is to glorify Him, and so I know, like right now, I I know that God is shifting me. I know that God is preparing me. I know that He is setting up that next assignment. And so sometimes I will have this argument, not an argument like a fight or anything, but I'm like, God, are you sure? Like, are you sure I'm ready for this? Like, are you sure that this is what I'm supposed to be doing? Like, is this what I'm is this what you want me to do? Like, I don't, I always say this, God, you are asking me to do all of these things, but you know that what you're asking me to do is not matching up with my pockets. So I'm gonna need you to help finance that so that I can do this assignment because without the tools, without that pen and paper, I can't write a report. Okay, we have computers now, we have laptops, okay. But I'm a little old school. I have to have paper and a pen and get to writing right before I even start typing. But as it's like what I was saying though, I can't do the things you want me to do if I don't have the necessary tools in order to carry it out, right? And so we have to take those things to God. We have to, but if God is calling you for an assignment, he's not requiring you to have qualifications, he's not requiring you to be what how can I put it? He he doesn't need you to be anything, you know, like a doctor, you know, like uh well, no, that's a bad example. Um how can I explain this? He doesn't need you to be qualified or pre-qualified to do a job, he just needs your obedience because he's already qualified you to do the job. Okay, a perfect example of this is Moses. Moses felt like he was not qualified to go out and go and step in front of Pharaoh, right? He didn't feel like that was what he was that he was meant to do, but God called him to do it, and he instructed him to do it, and that was and then his assignment was to just go out there and do what God told him to do, he was called to lead the people out of Egypt, and his assignment was to go before Pharaoh and speak, right? And so how did he do this? What tool did he use? Because if if you've read your Bible, you'll know that Moses had a hard time speaking, right? And so God gave him Aaron to help him to execute this assignment, and this assignment was for a season because then Moses stepped away and transferred what he had already done so that so that Joshua could take the next level and continue on with what God was calling them to do. So you see, I mean, we can sometimes stand in the way of what God is trying to do, and sometimes we will try to hold on to things as if that is what we are called to do. But what we're doing is we're holding on to an assignment that no longer pertains to us, and so we need to keep moving forward. My prayer is that you were able to see yourself or that it helped clarify some things for you when it comes to your purpose. Once again, we know that your purpose that's from God, it's who you are in God. Your calling is what you're going to do. I mean, I'm sorry, it's how right? How you're gonna walk it out. How are you going to express God's purpose in your life? And then your assignment is what you're going to do. What are you being asked to do in this moment? Right. So, I mean, I hope this episode spoke to your heart. And if it did, I'm gonna ask that you please share it with another amiga who needs this reminder.
